Eliza's Family Dedication
Today, we had the privilege of dedicating our baby girl to the Lord through a Family Dedication ceremony at our church. Some churches refer to this special occasion as a "Baby Dedication." We believe that, as much as we wish we could make that decision for our daughter, this dedication does not give salvation to her. We hope and pray that Eliza chooses to follow Jesus someday, but Family Dedication is more about OUR dedication and commitment to the Lord. Marcus and I are thankful that God saw fit to bless us with this baby girl, and this ceremony was an expression of gratitude to the Lord for His generosity in growing our family. Through Family Dedication, we are saying that Eliza Mae is ultimately God's child, and He has loaned her to us. We stood before our church family and publicly made a commitment that, by God's grace, we would strive to teach Eliza about the love of Jesus and continuously point her back to Him.
We chose a life verse for Eliza, and we pray that she will embrace Psalm 86:10-11: "For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth. Unite my heart to fear Your name." It is our hopeful plea that God will allow Eliza to understand the Gospel at an early age and that she will chase after Him all the remaining days of her life.
Marcus and I are grateful to have a wonderful church family who will partner with us to help us point our child to Jesus. We are also thankful that my brother and Grandma could join us for this special occasion.
